

1.2 million people in the U.K. have some form of learning difficulty. Some people have a mild learning difficulty and for others it is more severe. Some conditions such as Downs Syndrome exhibit physical characteristics but other conditions have none at all. People with a learning disability have a greater than average difficulty in learning. It does not mean they cannot learn but they may initially require extra support.
People are so diverse, it can be very hard to generalize, that's why we prefer to talk about a particular person and their unique skills and qualities. People with learning difficulties have lots of skills and talents to offer and with a little help can develop many more. The support of a job coach when starting work can make all the difference.
